Through intermittent classes and studio membership, my ceramic practice has provided an informal creative outlet where I can experiment freely with three dimensional objects. The alchemy of ceramic production has been an introduction to craft and material science that continues to inform my architectural and design practices as well as provide a deeper understanding of artistic production when working with artists in an organizational or curatorial role.
Two techniques I return to often are stacked objects and surface experimentation. The planters pictured here have saucers that have developed into their own shapes of equal volume to the soil container. They also feature ventilation holes for water evaporation. Ash trays feature openings to hold lighters and matchbooks or paradoxically function as pipes. For tableware, basic forms allow for more experimentation with glaze combinations and textural variations.
